If someone told you that Hyundai was having a big press conference at CES, the first thing that would come to mind would probably be cars.
But the time CES 2026Hyundai’s big event on Monday was dedicated to Boston Dynamics’ robots, and for the first time Atlas robot out of the laboratory and in front of a public audience.
The press conference began with a group of Boston Dynamics’ famous Spot robots doing a dance number before the event announcements officially began. You’ve probably seen video of Boston Dynamic’s bipedal humanoid robot known as Atlas, but they’ve always been in the company’s lab.

At CES, however, the Atlas took the stage in front of the public for the first time. The robot gets up off the floor in an awkward way, but Boston Dynamics explains this as the best way for a robot to stand up because it’s not human and shouldn’t conform to the way we’re supposed to stand.
As Atlas walked around the stage, Boston Dynamics announced a new product version of its Atlas robot that will be sent into the field. The new Atlas robot can lift up to 110 pounds and extend its arms up to 7.5 feet. The new Atlas is fully waterproof and can operate in temperatures down to -4 degrees and up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. The Atlas robot can quickly learn new tasks and then instantly share that knowledge with other Atlas robots. The Atlas robots battery pack can last for four hours, and when the battery starts to run low, the Atlas robot can return to its charging station and change battery packs on its own.

Where does Hyundai come in at its own press conference? Hyundai is partnering with Boston Dynamics to actually build the Atlas robots, supply the engines and work together to build the supply chain. In addition, Hyundai itself will use all the robots produced this year, and the robots are scheduled to be delivered to Hyundai’s Robotics Metaplant Application Center (RMAC). Google DeepMind is also partnering with the two companies to further develop the cognitive capabilities of Atlas with its AI models.

Boston Dynamics and Hyundai hope that once the Atlas robots prove themselves in factory settings, these robots could one day begin performing tasks inside the home.
